VIDEO: Härmälän Mimosa - Mars Yökkää!

Härmälän Mimosa is Finnish frantic freak folk band and they're going to release their debut album in 27th November. The first single from that album is out now and it's called Mars Yökkää! ('mars gags', a pun about Mars Attacks! which is Mars hyökkää! in Finnish)

So, what's the catch? The video is definitely eye candy. And you might find familiar faces, too...

Murder on the Catwalk

Last week we had our school's fashion show. Our class were models and backstage helpers - most of the models had two costumes and only minute or few for the change. I'm not really sure about the origin of the costumes, but the students of clothing and tailoring made those a year(?) ago for fashion show in Berlin. The theme of this show was 30's and 40's, and Komisario Palmu, and there was a murder mystery involved. Who murdered Miss Tähtinen? All the models were different characters and also the suspects.

Thanks to Xenia and Delia for taking these pics! My character was Hans, the leader of servants in the mansion of Miss Täthinen. Hans knew all the secrets in the mansion and was also behind some jewelry thefts.

In the last show I had a killer make-up and sassy attitude. It was a rough week. We had nine shows in three days. But I really enjoyed this time! I want to gain more and more experience in walking like a cat.

This was one of the songs in our fashion show. Can't stop listening to it!

Three faces for the Halloween

Needless to say, I've been really tired. I have lost contact with my camera and I'm not sure how to get it back. I'm planning to finally create an account to Instagram, but who knows when it's going to happen.

I've always loved to create crazy costumes and dress up, and Halloween is the perfect time of the year to go out wearing these weird things. This year I managed to create three different looks!

the Clown

On Saturday Vilma and Annica had super cool Halloween party. My head was a mess the whole day, but I managed to get rid of the anxiety for a while and put on my costume. The result was goofier I expected, it was so fun!

My dear room mate Tuuli was also heading to other Halloween party, so we decided to transform together before leaving the apartment.

From the party, with Vilma and Taneli.

the Seductress

On Friday we had a Halloween costume competition in school. I had also an appointment with the dentist after that, so that excluded all the make-up and fake blood. This costume was incredible, because I had all the clothes in my closet already, and those mind-blowing heels I borrowed from my dear friend Nakki.

thanks to my classmate Maija for taking the picture!

the Witching Hour

Well, this is really near from my everyday looks, but anyway. On Thursday and Friday evening I wanted to look like a witch. Friday included even more witchcraft, because I went to see the Craft to cinema with Vilma. It was the first time I saw that movie, so it was about time! If you love witches and 90's, then you REALLY need to see the Craft.

weekly outfit check 34/2014

Back in school. That means I need to get away from my home every day. That means I need to wear some proper clothing. That means more frequent outfit checks? Maybe?

Sin City inspired - I was heading to see the premiere

YEAR OF SILENCE: Blue Workshop

This post concentrates on one of the best things happened to me during my absence from HeavyBeatsReality. It might also be the most creative happening in my life after moving away from childhood surroundings.

Last August I started my work experience in place called Sininen Verstas (=blue workshop). First five months I was in atelier Rotondo learning how to dye fabrics and use different kind of templates to create patterns. And then I was another five months in atelier Satroria learning to sew and do any kind of 3D creations with fabrics. Nothing has been as inspiring as this period in Sininen Verstas.

collaborating!

It feels impossible to show all the things I've done there, but I'll try to show my favourites.

We usually started our days with a random painting. It was a good starter before heading to the main things of the day. We had some light guidelines and then we used 10-30 minutes to paint something, usually mindflow. Here are some of my dry pastel favourites.

Painting fabrics with free technique and then sewing them as new covers. Now I can turn every boring notebook and file into more visually satisfying.

Most of the time in Rotondo we learned different kinds of batik dyeing techniques. All of the colours were self-combined from pigments, so the colours were unique.

because of use of sodium we needed masks
this T-shirt was originally simple gray, now it's better
Has anyone heard about art books? The form is simple and not surprising: it's art in a form of a book. In Finland it's not that know form of art. Luckily, in Sininen Verstas we visited many different kind of art exhibitions and one of them introduced art books so well we decided to make our own

My art book is heavily inspired by the movie Hellraiser, which I had seen just few days before doing this book.
cardboard, rubber and chicken wire
...and favourite ingredient: duct tape!

with self-dyed fabric and heart that moves when you open the book

No wait. I want to separate these things I've made in two. Here you have seen things I'm very proud of, but probably won't be doing anymore in near future. Because of lack of inspiration or resources. I want to give a proper spotlight to the things I'd love to do even more. So the last Year of Silence post will be about three things I'm very passionate about and would like to do even more: jewelry, upgrading clothes and stencils.

learn to speak

I can't even tell how irritating this is. Yes, I definitely would love to write as often as possible, but still I remain silent. Dead silent, it seems. I've been too exhausted, anxious and depressed to actually do anything. This one part of me just wants to delete every web profile I have and bury me. "Just be silent because you're nobody." That's what it keeps telling me. Oh how I'd love to take photographs, arrange photoshoots, write and create. But no. I just need some time.

autumn is coming so I can wear my favourite outfit again!
Schools started few weeks ago, I'm studying hatmaking and millinery now. At the same time, it's very inspiring but also I'm getting even more tired.

Gladly I've captured something during past months.

I mostly forgot my weekly outfit check. Of course. It's more like ten weeks and two pictures? Does it count? Yes?

CD REVIEW - Austra: Habitat EP

I somehow associate Austra's music to this blog. They both began to be part of me at the same time in spring 2011. I can't remember when was the last time I hyperventilated about new music in here, I used to do it more when the blog was a newborn. Well, now is the time again.

Out of nowhere came Habitat, the new EP from Austra. I didn't know about this until the EP was released yesterday. Austra has been one of my favourite bands for years and good source of inspirations, but after seeing their concert last August I've been less excited. I don't know, maybe the concert wasn't as mind blowing as I thought I'll be. But of course I'm glad I saw them.
cover of the Habitat EP
Habitat includes four new tracks. The title song is addictive, and I think it's more club-kind of song from Austra than usual. I love their mysterious aesthetic and it's good that they really know how to combine club and mystique. Hulluu is another song from this EP that caught my ear. My eye first, because that word is a Finnish word meaning '(something is) crazy'. Bouncy jungle beats and whispered lyrics took me right away, another new kind of song from Austra! Two remaining songs sound good, but they're a bit boring without lyrics - though song called Doepfer has some ecstatic moments.

weekly outfit check 23/2014

This is something where I really need to hear your opinions and your voice. I was asked to show pics about my outfits. I was planning to write an entry once per week, which will show the best pieces from the week. Are you interested? Is one week too much, would two weeks or one month be better? Or is this something that doesn't need own "series", should I just continue posting randomly about my outfits if I have something better to tell?

Anyway, here's the best from previous week. Check them out and tell me do you like this idea.

This coat is self-upgraded, I would like to do this for all my jackets! If I've got any extra energy this summer, I'd like to do this "give me your jacket and some money, and I'll upgrade it", but all depends on do I want to sleep the whole summer or not... And Bauhaus t-shirt, one of my favourite shirts

I was so inspired after seeing Maleficent-movie that I forgot to check the thermometer before heading out. I did have two additional layers, but I had to remove them before getting heatstroke. The movie was good, by the way. So eye candy. I wasn't so excited about the beginning or the end, but no can do when it's about Disney.

I think all my favourite T-shirts are band shirts, because this Crystal Castles shirts is one of my absolutely favourites, been years and it's still. This is from Stockholm.

...and this also, and so is the shirt. Seems like I'm all about shirts, eh? But this is perfect for chilly summer days.

YEAR OF SILENCE: Silent houses

Pictures from Kruunuvuori, the abandoned district in Helsinki.

From Beelitz-Heilstätten, a large abandoned hospital complex. This place was amazing, I've never experienced anything as ghost town as this one. The area was so huge that after three hours we've seen only half of the area. The oldest buildings in the area were build in 19th century, and there were sanatoriums and war hospitals. Blog called Abandoned Berlin is a great place to learn about abandoned places in or near Berlin, especially this entry helped me a lot.

We entered the last building near the dusk. Every door and window was locked, but I managed to find a way in - this suspiciously small door, well hidden and unlocked. It was so dark we used the light of cell phones. I didn't take any pictures inside the building, I just concentrated to see as much as possible. I've read that there was some kind of serial killer hiding in these ruins few decades ago. The old building was full of horrible noises, wind was blowing through the broken windows... cell phone batteries were running low, and then we didn't find the way out. Few minutes we were lost in this huge dark building, trying to locate that tiny door. Luckily we found the door before the batteries were dead.

I definitely want to go back! I think Beelitz-Heilstätten is one of the most exciting places I've ever visited.
